Functional Movement Screen in Omaha, NE
Two movement screens that are utilized at Behm Muscle & Joint Clinic are the Functional Movement Screen (FMS) and the Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA). Dr. Behm is certified in both the FMS and SFMA assessments. According to FMS, the movement screen itself captures fundamental movements, motor control within movement patterns, and competence of basic movements uncomplicated by specific skills. The screen is designed to determine the greatest areas of movement deficiency, demonstrate limitations or asymmetries and correlate with an outcome.
The FMS is comprised of seven movement tests that require a balance of mobility and stability. many people are able to preform a wide range of activities, yet are unable to efficiently execute the movements in the screen. Those individuals who score poorly on the screens are using compensatory movement patterns and if they continue lead to poor biomechanics and future injury. The FMS screen brings these faulty movements to light, allowing us to prevent the possibility of future injury before occurrence.
What Does the Functional Movement Screen (FMS) Consist of?
The FMS is comprised of seven movement tests that require a balance of mobility and stability. many people are able to preform a wide range of activities, yet are unable to efficiently execute the movements in the screen. Those individuals who score poorly on the screens are using compensatory movement patterns and if they continue lead to poor biomechanics and future injury. The FMS screen brings these faulty movements to light, allowing us to prevent the possibility of future injury before occurrence.
The SFMA is a comprehensive movement screen assessment used to classify movement patterns and direct manual therapy and therapeutic exercise techniques. The assessment helps identify individual movement pattern deficiencies and the provocation of pain within movement patterns that is unique to each individual.
At Behm Muscle & Joint Clinic we believe that “movement is medicine” if you are loading tissues in a faulty movement pattern the intervention used to correct these constant faulty loading patterns begins with utilizing these screens to determine the faulty pattern and then using our in office manual therapy and corrective exercise techniques teach the patient the proper movements to eliminate the patterns causing pain.
